What got you into acupuncture?
What got you into acupuncture? If I had a dollar for every time I heard this question, I'd be one rich lady. But, I'd definitely keep my job as an acupuncturist because it's not just a job, it's a calling. But I digress. I took one acupuncture class in the Fall of 1997 and I was hooked. This was after I went to UCLA to take a few undergraduate courses in life sciences (chemistry, biology etc.) I thought I may want to prepare myself for medical school. The further I got into that endeavor, something just didn't feel right. So I quit. After a few more years of honing my executive assistant (read: ass-kissing/whipping girl) skills, I was wiser, more mature and ready to buckle down and study medicine. But would the western route make sense or would I rather try something holistic?
I began to weigh all my options in early 1997. I was 26 years old at the time. After gathering countless brochures and applications, acupuncture school seemed the most appealing. It was a four-year, full-time course of study. I would be 30 years old when I finished. Thirty years old!! Believe it or not, this one fact is what made me hesitant. Then, in one of my fits of indecisiveness, I prayed on it. In the extreme quiet of the late evening I got my answer....I was turning 30 anyway. So I went for it. I mean I really went for it. I graduated third in my class, magna cum laude with a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I passed my acupuncture board exam on the first attempt. And I've never looked back.
If you're reading this and I've had the opportunity to treat you, thank you. I think my patients are the most amazing group of people. You really are a blessing in my life.
Thanks for reading.

As the owner of Healing Hands Wellness Center, where Tamara currently practices, I am proud to say that she is an integral part of our healing team. Tamara's patients are consistently pleased with her ability to listen to what's going on and formulate a treatment plan that is unique for them. This center wouldn't be quite what it is without the talents of Tamara ZumMallen. ...and as the famous line goes... "I'm not only the owner of Healing Hands, I'm also a client."

I have struggled with a stiff neck for as long as I can remember. After many physician trips and drugs that never worked, I went to see Dr. Tami. I can finally turn my head without pain! I have a long way to go, but with acupuncture and Dr. Tami, I will be healed soon!!
