Should I have cupping as well as acupuncture?
Cupping is a healing modality that tends to take the backseat in my practice. That is until a celebrity walks the red carpet with a few cupping bruises on his/her body. Then suddenly, curiosity peaks and I am flooded with phone calls and emails inquiring as to whether or not I do cupping. The short answer is yes, I do cupping.
I love cupping. I don't mind having a few bruises on my body in exchange for detoxification, relaxation, and the release of severe muscle tension.
This is what happens in a cupping session. In addition to placing needles in the appropriate points throughout the body, I also place small cups on very specific points designed to removed stagnation and toxins. Air is aspirated out of the cups and the patient has the sensation of the muscle being pulled up into the cup. It does not hurt. It is comfortable. You will bruise. The cups are left in place the same amount of time as the needles which is approximately 20 minutes.
You will feel great and look forward to the next session. Just be prepared for curious stares and questions from strangers at the gym.
Thanks for reading.
