Can acupuncture help me with stress?

The short answer is yes, acupuncture can reduce and possibly eliminate the physical manifestations of stress.  Newsweek reported back in 2004 that some 60 - 90% of all doctors visits were stress related.  Unbelievable!!  Some symptoms may be:  headache, muscle tension, acid reflux, ulcers, irritable bowel, heart palpitations, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety and depression.

The treatment for stress reduction and it's unpleasant side effects is simple from a Chinese medical perspective.  By restoring a proper flow of qi (the body's life force), the physical body will heal and the mind will flourish allowing the him/her the think clearly and calmly again.  Not to mention, just getting still for the 20-minute session can do wonders in the short-term.

This is definitely a team effort though.  Some patients are surprised when I ask for their participation outside of the office.  I recommend, in addition to acupuncture, breathing exercises, physical activity and maybe some dietary changes.  I find over and over that when the patient follows protocol in and outside of the office, we can make lasting changes in his/her body and soul.

Thank you for reading.

Acupuncture is something I've looked into a lot more over recent months for controlling stress, and I can also report good results with it. I would urge those struggling with stress to at least give it a shot no matter what your preconceived ideas may be.

    Good article.
